Broc Edson's portrait

BROC EDSON

Hi. I'm Broc Edson, a video game programmer with experience on many projects, working primarily as a gameplay programmer. I got started by working on small projects and game jams before progressing to working on larger team-based projects. I am passionate about games and their potential as a medium of artistic expression, and I love to work with big groups of people on cool projects!I am getting my Master's in Game Design and Development from Bradley University, where I also got my bachelor's in Computer Science, minoring in Game Design. I graduated magna cum laude and I also am serving as an RA. Playing games is my biggest hobby, but I also enjoy playing D&D and board games, watching anime, and listening to old music on vinyl.

Projects

This is simply a small sample of the programming projects I have done so far. Feel free to follow the links to enjoy my work!

Eye of the Erime

My Master's project. I programmed many essential gameplay systems for the game, including the "entanglement" system, the main mechanic of the game, as well as ephemeral (purple) and binding (orange) flower effects. I also engineered the base systems for how mechanisms operate, as well as many of those mechanisms' behavior, such as moving platforms and buttons. I was one of only two full-time programmers on this project, so what I mentioned is only a fraction of the work I have done for this. Needless to say, I am incredibly proud of this project!Try it on itch.io!

Lingering Legacy

My first professional project. Over the course of a summer, I programmed the AI for the final boss of this game and did bug fixing ahead of its release. The deadlines were tight for this one, but I'm proud of the work I did for this game and I enjoyed working on this team.Get it on Steam!

Disaster Golf

This was my senior capstone project. I programmed most of the hazards that are in the original capstone release, which has since been developed further into a full game. I'm very proud of how this game has turned out, and it was a pleasure learning how to communicate well on this large a team.Play the original demo version of the project on Steam!

Game Jams and Personal Projects

Over the years, I have made several smaller games for personal projects and game jams. I enjoy working with other people on a game jam project, but I also enjoy working alone sometimes and testing all of my game development skills!See Lodestone, as shown above, and other smaller projects on my itch.io page!
